Building Household Economic Resilience Women in Palabuhanratu Learn Sustainable Financial Management

Palabuhanratu, June 23–24, 2025 — Rumah Energi held a two-day training on Financial Literacy through the Financial Action Learning for Sustainability (FALS) Approach in Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency. The training was attended by 41 women participants from Loji Village, Cidadap Village, Citarik Village, Jayanti Village, and Palabuhanratu Sub-district, including representatives from the PLTU UBP Palabuhanratu staff.
This activity aimed to strengthen women’s capacity in managing household and micro-enterprise finances in a sustainable manner. Through the participatory FALS approach, participants explored the importance of financial planning, gender-equitable decision-making in household economics, and financial independence in the face of social change and the energy transition.

On the first day, participants revisited the Vision Journey and Happy Family Tree—adapted from previous GALS (Gender Action Learning System) methods—and connected these tools with practical financial literacy concepts. Reflective sessions, drawing activities, and interactive games helped foster communication, empathy, and shared learning among participants. The discussions revealed a strong desire among the women to strengthen their businesses, manage spending more wisely, and take an active role in maintaining the financial stability of their households.
On the second day, participants practiced how to create a family budget, plan short- to long-term savings, and keep financial records. They also discussed the importance of setting up emergency funds, avoiding unnecessary debt, and prioritizing essential expenditures.

The training concluded with a screening of inspiring videos on renewable energy and a reflection session on identifying local opportunities for sustainable development. Participant feedback indicated that the training had a meaningful impact—not only by enhancing financial knowledge but also by shaping new attitudes toward money management and empowering women’s roles in strengthening household and community economies.
