Rumah Energi Gelar Paparan Rekomendasi Kebijakan Koperasi Hijau untuk Transisi Energi Berkeadilan

On 9 December 2025, Rumah Energi hosted the Policy Recommendation Presentation: “Green Cooperatives in Developing a Renewable Energy Ecosystem as a Climate Mitigation Strategy”. The event marked an important milestone in strengthening the role of cooperatives in Indonesia’s energy transition.

The session brought together representatives from the Ministry of Cooperatives, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Village Development, and Ministry of Religious Affairs, alongside LPDB, PNM, BRI, provincial cooperative agencies, and cooperative institutions across Indonesia. This broad participation reflects strong cross-sector interest in advancing cooperative-based clean energy initiatives and ensuring an inclusive, community-centered energy transition.

At the event, Rumah Energi presented key findings from the Green Cooperative Policy Readiness Project — a year-long initiative supported by ClimateWorks Foundation that involved:

  • A baseline survey across 85 cooperatives
  • Capacity-building for 154 cooperatives and government cooperative offices
  • Development of five training modules now integrated into the Ministry of Cooperatives’ LMS

These insights formed the foundation of the policy recommendations introduced during the event.

Participants discussed the strategic role of cooperatives in expanding energy access, particularly in rural areas. Henra Saragih, Deputy for Institutional Affairs and Cooperative Digitalization (Ministry of Cooperatives), highlighted the urgency of ensuring rural communities are not left behind in the energy transition, reinforcing the potential of cooperatives as key actors.

Rumah Energi’s Executive Director, Sumanda Tondang, emphasized the importance of community-based ownership models and the relevance of cooperatives in driving just and inclusive energy systems.

The event served as a platform to present and validate a set of actionable policy recommendations aimed at:

  • Improving regulatory alignment
  • Strengthening institutional and technical capacity
  • Creating more accessible green financing pathways
  • Enabling local governments to prioritize green cooperative initiatives

These recommendations are designed to support ministries and local governments in operationalizing green cooperative development across Indonesia.

By bringing diverse stakeholders into one room, the event fostered dialogue, alignment, and shared commitment toward empowering cooperatives as community-driven clean energy actors.

Rumah Energi looks forward to continued collaboration with ministries, financial institutions, and regional governments to build a stronger, more inclusive ecosystem for green cooperatives — and advance Indonesia’s just energy transition.
