Nurturing Water Heroes in Schools

Water is the source of life — yet it is increasingly under threat. Amid growing concerns about clean water scarcity and climate change, awareness of the importance of conservation must be cultivated from an early age. With that spirit, Microsoft and Rumah Energi launched Hydro Heroes: Save Every Drop — an educational program that inspires students to become water heroes in their schools and homes.

The activities took place at SMPN 03 Cikarang Pusat and SDN 4 Pasir Ranji in Bekasi Regency on October 21 and 28, 2025, involving around 500 students. Using an edutainment approach, the program taught children about the value of water through fun, interactive experiences — playing games, competing, and practicing real conservation actions.

One of the highlights was the Water Relay, where students raced to transfer water from a basin to a bucket by passing it over their heads. The schoolyard was filled with laughter and cheers, yet behind the excitement lay a meaningful lesson: without proper water management, valuable resources can easily go to waste.

The fun continued with the Water Heroes Snakes and Ladders game, specially designed with a conservation theme. Each square contained questions and challenges related to the water cycle. Correct answers helped players “climb the ladders,” while wasteful water habits made them “slide down the snakes.” Through this game, children learned that small habits — like turning off the tap or collecting rainwater — can make a big difference in preserving the environment.

Beyond games, students also took real action by creating biopore infiltration holes in the school area. Together with Microsoft volunteers and the Rumah Energi team, they dug holes, filled them with organic waste, and covered them again. Each biopore symbolized how simple, everyday actions can contribute to saving water and protecting the planet.

The Hydro Heroes program aims to foster environmental awareness among young generations and encourage long-term behavioral change. Through this initiative, students not only learn about water conservation in theory but also experience the real meaning behind every drop they use.
