Strengthening the Role of Cooperatives in the National Energy Ecosystem through TERBIT
Indonesia needs an energy transition that is not only fast, but also just and inclusive. In response to this challenge, Rumah Energi is implementing the Just Energy Transition in Indonesia through Community-Based Renewable Energy Models (TERBIT Project). This initiative positions cooperatives as key actors in the production, management, and utilization of renewable energy—ensuring that communities are not merely beneficiaries, but active drivers of clean energy systems at the grassroots level.
TERBIT strengthens national policy foundations and the broader enabling ecosystem for community-based renewable energy, while enhancing the institutional capacity of cooperatives to manage renewable energy projects in a professional and sustainable manner. The project also develops technically and financially viable business models and integrates clean energy into productive economic activities, particularly in rural areas where affordable energy access remains a critical need.
Through this approach, TERBIT aims to reinforce the role of cooperatives within Indonesia’s renewable energy ecosystem, expand access to clean and affordable energy, stimulate local economic growth, and contribute to national renewable energy targets and emissions reduction. In line with the vision of an empowered Indonesia, TERBIT promotes a low-carbon energy system that is participatory, inclusive, and rooted in community resilience.
