Green Jobs Initiative through the Desa Energi Berdikari Program

Five youth groups from Bangko Jaya and Bangko Permata villages are currently preparing green initiatives to be offered to key stakeholders. These young changemakers are participants in the Green Jobs training and mentoring program under the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) initiative, a collaboration between Rumah Energi and PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PT PHR).
One of the core focuses of the program is to strengthen the capacity of rural youth in developing environmentally friendly project proposals and enhancing their pitching skills to engage potential partners and supporters. The “Proposal Writing and Pitching” training series, held in April 2025, marked a significant milestone in this process.

Over the past three months, participants have received intensive online and offline mentoring from experts in sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and agricultural technology. This journey has led to the emergence of diverse project ideas, ranging from sustainable farming and organic waste management to the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to improve the efficiency of local food production.
“Our goal is to build a green entrepreneurship ecosystem that grows from within the village. When young people have the skills to design and articulate solutions effectively, greater opportunities for funding and collaboration become possible,” said Krisna Wijaya, Project Manager at Rumah Energi.
The DEB program represents a joint strategy to create green job opportunities in rural areas while accelerating energy transition and grassroots-driven sustainable development. Through a spirit of collaboration and innovation, the initiative aims to empower rural youth not just as beneficiaries of development—but as key actors in shaping a more sustainable future.
